You realize that's only ONE shortcoming, right?

The Hardcore thing comes with the territory. It's the risk you took making a Battle.Net HC character in D2. Will it suck if(when) my HC character(s) die from a d/c? Yes. Will I bitch and moan about it? Probably. But ultimately I know the risk going in, so I have no one to blame but myself for making an HC character in the first place.

Which brings us back to the whole "playing the game whenever the hell I want". What I think you really mean is: playing the game in any circumstance… but you couldn't do that anyway. I mean, you'd still need electricity to play, right? You can't play any game in a power outage. But do you rage at PECO over your obvious dependency on them?

While I don't really like it too much either, I do, however, disagree with you in that I think the benefits (plural) DO outweigh the ONE shortcoming.

Also if you hate it that much, blame the REAL people responsible: the asshats who hacked and pirated and abused D2 that subsequently forced Blizzard to make a tough call with D3.

that's why i only gave hardcore mode 2 sentences in this article. the focus of this was absolutely not hardcore mode. i don't even really care about hardcore mode.

on dependency to the electric company, yes, in fact i could continue to play for roughly 5 hours because i use my laptop which is kept at pretty much full charge all the time.

i hate it for the precedent that can be set with ubisoft and now blizzard putting systems like this in play. publishers with this kind of power and sales become de facto standard setters and that worries me. and i'm sure blizzard has the talent to fix this in their dev pool.

I was outraged by the constant interruptions over the past two days, I won't deny it, but I'm still pro-always on. To sum it up in as few words as possible: You're all forced into the Auction House market. (To be honest, I'm sure that has a LOT to do with why they're requiring always on. I'm almost willing to say it was the top reason, as D3 doesn't require a sub. and the income has to come from somewhere.)
